2007 San Antonio-Austin Geographic Educators Conference

SAGE began its first year by hosting the first annual San Antonio-Austin Geographic Educators Conference on Saturday, April 14, 2007, at Canyon High School in New Braunfels, Texas. Titled "Geography: Here, There, Everywhere," this conference was an opportunity for area geography and social studies educators to collaborate with each other on exciting new ways to motivate their students and to further their own education.


Jeff Lash, Assistant Professor of Geography at the University of Houston-Clear Lake, was the keynote speaker at the inaugural SAGE Conference. His key note address was titled "All My Heroes Are Teachers."


Dr. Lash discusses the role teachers had in his own career and personal development. 


Dr. Lash challenges the educators in the audience to be unafraid in their quest to motivate and inspire students in geography.  


  Educators discuss a TEKS-based lesson during Freda Johnson and Hazelanne Prescott's presentation titled "Diva's Box Set: An Anthology of Activities." 


Cinde Thomas-Jimenez demonstrates a way to teach about water pollution in "Population Connections-Elementary." 

 


Judy Lucas writes audience examples of technology in "The U.S. and Canada From Space."


Roger Palmer and Lance Freeman discuss population structure during Palmer's session "Global Population Pyramids."


Anita Palmer examines data sets in "Global Population Pyramids."


Group discussion during "Diva's Box Set: An Anthology of Activities."  


Dr. Byron Augustin uses a personal trip to Andorra to highlight the wonder of the tiny European country in "Andorra: High in the Pyrenees."  


Audrey Mohan leads Roger Palmer and Phillip Rodriguez in a discussion on their experiences in becoming world geography teachers for "Focus Group Mixed Level." 


Dr. Richard Earl gives an overview of environmental education programs during his session.
