Texas Alliance Hosts Summer Academy for Minority Scholars
The Texas Alliance, in conjunction with the Grosvenor Center for Geographic
Education, hosted the 2006 Geography Summer Academy for Minority Scholars. The
in-residence Academy gave teams of students and their teachers the opportunity
to experience hands-on-geography. This year's theme was Studies in Resource
Conservation. Students learned about resource conservation through guest speakers, group projects, and trips to interesting places such as Bamberger Ranch and Hornsby Bend. Enrollment for the 2007 Academy will begin early next spring.
National Geographic Launches My Wonderful World
National Geographic Society has launched a public awareness campaign - backed by a coalition of major national partners-to expand geographic learning in school, at home, and in the community. The
coalition wants to give kids the power of global knowledge. You can test your
geography knowledge, download an education action kit, sign up for news alerts, and more on the new website at www.mywonderfulworld.org.
