Geography Awareness Week

2007 Geography Awareness Week
November 11-17

Every year since 1987, when U.S. President Ronald Reagan signed legislation establishing the third week in November as Geography Awareness Week, the National Geographic Society has promoted the importance of geography to the public and to schools throughout the United States and in Canada. Each year a different theme is highlighted and approximately one and a half million people participate in related activities. Geography Awareness Week highlights National Geographic's Geography Action! theme. This year's theme is "Asia: A Continent of Contrasts."
