The Panhandle-Plains Historical Museum
West Texas A&M University in Canyon

Hamilton Pool
Dripping Springs, Texas

Hamilton Pool Preserve is located about 30 miles west of Austin on FM 3238. This 232-acre preserve emphasizes habitat protection and restoration. The preserve offers limited day-use with recreational opportunities such as picnicking, hiking, swimming and nature study. For more information call (512) 264-2740.


Bamberger Ranch
Johnson City, Texas

Once considered the worst piece of property in Blanco County, Bamberger Ranch Preserve has become a master piece of the Texas Hill Country. The 5,500 acre ranch has been described as the largest habitat restoration project on private land in Texas. The ranch staff provides educational and interpretive services. On a ranch tour you may discover dinosaur tracks, hunt for Cretaceous fossils, see a man-made cave built to house 1 million bats, and visit the largest herd of the endangered Scimitar-horned Oryx in the world. Bamberger Ranch has hiking trails, nature trails, and a lake where people can swim, fish or enjoy looking into the clear water. San Luis de Las Amarillas Presidio
Menard, Texas

250 years ago the San Luis de Las Amarillas Presidio, more commonly known as San Saba Presidio, was Spain's most remote outpost against French expansion. What remains today are piles of rock and partially reconstructed walls. The ruins are located one mile west of Menard off of U.S.


Regency Bridge
Regency, Texas

Just north of San Saba you can drive across the last suspension bridge in Texas that is open to automobile traffic. Driving across a suspension bridge is a unique experience. Plus, the view of the Colorado River from the bridge is spectacular. To get to the bridge, take TX 16 north from San Saba and then go west for 17 miles on FM 500.


The Texas Surf Museum
Corpus Christi, Texas

Turner Falls
Davis, Oklahoma

Turner Falls is considered by many to be a paradise in the rugged Arbuckle Mountains of South Central Oklahoma. The falls are located about an hour-and-a-half north of Dallas/Fort Worth. The Llano Slab
Kingsland, Texas

It's no secret...the Llano Slab outside of Kinglsland is one of the best swimming holes around. Locals love to swim here. This is not a park, so there are no facilities or drinking water. To get there take FM 1431 through Kingsland about 1.5 miles and make a left turn on FM 3404.


The Jersey Barnyard
La Grange, Texas

The Jersey Barnyard is on a hill 1.4 miles east of TX 71 on TX 159. Take a tour of this working dairy farm, which also has a petting zoo, hayrides, and more. You can even try milking a cow. Reservations are recommended. For more information visit www.texasjersey.com.
